Cannibal Royale

Cannibale Royale is a local favorite where the burgers are big and the beers are exotic. Its a popular restaurant with a local bar feel. The walls are full of knick knacks and the music compliments the laid back setting.  I may venture to say it was the best burger I’ve ever had. I’m dead serious.  Get a side of Mac’n Cheese or the Jack Potato to really feel like your at home.

Winkel43

We have the best network of friends abroad with us and we found Winkel43 all because of one of those generous friends! Winkels43 is famous for its apple pie and fresh mint tea but there is plenty else on the menu! On a chilly day there is nothing better than a warm piece of apple pie and steaming mint tea to warm you up. It’s usually busy so be prepared to wait a few mins for a table but BELIEVE ME it is soooo worth it!

Smokin’ Barrels

The dutch know how to do it and Smokin’ Barrels did not let us down. Its a hip restaurant with a local bar feel. Outside seating is equipped with heaters so finding a table isn’t too tricky. The menu is full of tasty appetizers, hearty burgers, and meat/fish entrees. There is something for everyone on the menu and you won’t walk away hungry!

Upstairs Pannekoekenhuis

One thing you MUST eat while visiting Amsterdam is pancakes and the best place to do it is at Upstairs Pannekoekenhuis (Upstairs Pancake House). Arguably the best pancakes in the city! There are only 4 tables so make sure to call ahead and get a reservation or arrive before noon!  This is no place to be on a diet so enjoy ever last lick of syrup you can!

Vlaams Friteshuis Vleminckx

Vleminckx the Sausmeester (sauce master) has been located in the centre of Amsterdam, a few footsteps from the Spui, since 1957. Here, in a tiny hole-in-the-wall shop, you can find the best Flemish fries in Amsterdam. They are known for their home cooked fries and the many different sauces that accompany them in your paper cone! Don’t miss it!
